A Springfield-based security systems company with more than a quarter-century in the industry has merged with a Lenexa, Kansas-based operation.

Bryan Morris, who remained president of American Detection Specialists Inc., said the asset sale to Atronic Alarms Inc. closed in late August. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed, said Morris, noting the Springfield operation continues to be autonomous. A July filing with the Missouri secretary of state for the American Detection Specialists fictitious name lists Atronic as the owner.

Morris said American Detection Specialists retained its name in the deal, with operations continuing at 440 S. Cavalier Ave., Ste. A. Three new technicians have joined full-time, he added, bringing the company’s employee count to 14.

“They are learning our customer base and product line and helping us take some steps forward in selling at a higher volume,” he said.

Atronic Alarms, which was started in 1982 by Perry Atha, sells security, fire and automation systems to business and residential clients in the Kansas City and Omaha, Nebraska, metropolitan areas, according to its website.

Atha is president of the company and his son Neil is vice president, Morris said. He said Atronic has never been a competitor of his company, noting a sale was an opportunity for American Detection to grow and Atronic to expand to the Springfield market.

“We had gotten to the point where we needed to grow, advance and improve,” Morris said. “They seemed to be the best candidate for the job and best relationship we could have.”

Morris in 1993 joined American Detection, which was started by his father Jim in 1989. He took over the company in 2011 after his dad died.

Morris said clients of the company, which sells security systems and security devices, would see no rate changes as a result of the sale.
