American Apparel lays off hundreds of workers

Posted online
Clothing manufacturer and retailer American Apparel is laying off hundreds of workers at its Los Angeles production facility.

The news comes roughly two months after the company emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

About 500 workers have lost jobs since last week. American Apparel employs roughly 4,600 in southern California, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Company executives stated in a letter to employees that the layoffs are the result of a redesigned production process that would manufacture fewer garments and outsource some products to third parties in the U.S.
