Ameren’s oldest and smallest coal-fired power plant is slated to officially close on Dec. 31.
The electricity provider first announced plans to retire the plant in 2014.
The closure of the Meramec Energy Center is one of three coal-fired power plant retirements planned by Ameren by 2030.
