St. Louis-based Ameren Missouri intends to close a Jefferson County coal plant earlier than planned.
A court order has forced the company's hand. It can either shut down the facility or install pollution controls after it was found in violation of federal clean air laws.
The company has chosen to close the Rush Island Energy Center early after announcing two years ago it would shutter the plant in 2039.
