AMC to buy Carmike Cinemas for $1.1B

AMC Theatres announced yesterday it agreed to purchase Carmike Cinemas Inc. in a $1.1 billion deal.

The transaction would make Leawood, Kan.-based AMC the largest theater chain in the U.S.

AMC has 5,426 screens in 387 theaters. With the purchase, it would have 8,380 screens in 663 locations.

The deal is expected to close by year's end.
