Amazon to open its first brick-and-mortar site

Posted online
Amazon Inc. plans to open a location in New York City, according to the Wall Street Journal. The experimental space will be the company’s first brick-and-mortar store in its 20-year history.

Open in time for the holiday shopping season, the space will function as a small warehouse, with limited inventory for same-day delivery. Amazon also will provide product returns, exchanges and pickups of online orders from its New York store, according to the report.

Amazon also may use the space to showcase inventory like its Kindle e-readers and Fire smartphones, the journal reports. The size of the Amazon’s store, length of lease and amount of inventory housed are still unknown.
