Seattle-based Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) is expanding its regional footprint with a new facility in Monett.
A late 2026 opening is planned for the 119,152-square-foot delivery station on a 25-acre parcel at 603 Chappell Drive in Monett, according to a news release. Construction is expected to start in the coming weeks for the facility, which is anticipated to create 100 jobs once operational.
"Amazon looks forward to growing its investment in southwest Missouri with a planned last-mile facility in Monett to help increase delivery speeds for our valued customers,” said Jason Vangalis, Amazon economic development manager, in the release. “Due to a great partnership with the Monett Economic Development Committee, we’re proud to bring new opportunities to this dedicated workforce in the region.”
A last-mile facility is a phrase Amazon uses to describe delivery stations that process and speed up deliveries on the final leg of a package's journey.
Monett Mayor Randy Burke said in the release that the Amazon facility would help drive economic growth in the city, which is a goal of the municipality.
"Amazon’s investment in our community will not only improve delivery times for thousands of Amazon customers in Barry and Lawrence counties but also provides permanent jobs at a competitive wage for our community members," Burke said in the release.
Barry County recorder data shows Amazon.com Services LLC took ownership of the parcel on Sept. 10 from Darrco LLC. International Dehydrated Foods, a company sold to Symrise AG in 2019 by southwest Missouri businessman Bill Darr, has a plant nearby, as do EFCO Corp. and Tyson. The Amazon land is located south of the Tyson plant and north of the Monett Motor Speedway.
R.B. Murray Co. CEO Ryan Murray said he brokered the deal along with Seattle-based KBC Advisors.
Amazon additionally operates a distribution and fulfillment center in Republic and a delivery station in Springfield, according to past reporting.
The Lawrence County Record was first to report on Amazon’s plans in Monett.
