Amazon quietly introduces new tablets and e-readers

When Amazon's smartphone Fire didn't exactly burn up the competition, the online retailer chose to be a bit more low-key when it announced its fall lineup of new devices.
 
Bloomberg Businessweek reports that Amazon's best bet among its new offerings is the $100, 6-inch Kindle Fire HD tablet. The price is lower than other similar devices on the market and is available in a version designed specifically for kids. For an additional $50, you get a protective case, a free year of children's content and Amazon will replace the device if your kids break it during the first two years.
 
Upgrades and changes to its other devices were less awe-inspiring, Bloomberg reports. Amazon has made small tweaks to its Fire HDX tablets and is offering a thinner version of its Kindle e-reader.
