Amazon pauses police use of facial recognition software

Amazon instituted a one-year pause on the use of its facial recognition software by police.

Company officials said the moratorium on Rekognition “might give Congress enough time to put in place appropriate rules" to ethically use the technology.

Amazon officials did not explain the reasoning for the move, but it comes amid growing concerns that the technology may lead to unfair treatment of black Americans.
