Amazon increases price of Prime

Posted online
Amazon increased the price for its Prime membership on Thursday, CNNMoney reports, a move the company indicated it would take in February.

The increase, from $79 to $99, is the first rate hike for the service since its inception nine years ago. Prime members receive free two-day shipping on select items and can borrow Kindle books and stream movies and television shows.

The increase is less than the $119 company initially announced. The increase is blamed on increased fuel and shipping costs.
