Amazon joined technology industry peers Apple, Alphabet and Microsoft in crossing the $1 trillion market cap mark.
The move past the trillion-dollar threshold came as Amazon's share rose as much as 11% after the release of the company's fourth quarter earnings results.
Earnings per share of $6.47 beat expectations of $4.03 per share. Revenue was $87.4 billion, above the $86 billion expected by analysts.
