Amazon hires Jay Carney, former Obama press secretary

Nearly a year after leaving the post of press secretary for the Obama administration, Jay Carney has joined the parade of former Washington insiders marching into the world of high tech.
 
The New York Times reports Carney is starting his new job as Amazon's senior vice president for global affairs, which is a new position at the online retailer, according to the report. In the role, Carney will manage public relations and public policy.
 
Carney joins the ranks of high-profile Washington names who have left politics to work in the tech industry, including Obama's 2008 campaign manager David Plouffe, now at Uber; former congress member Susan Molinari, now with Google, and others. The report states tech companies are hiring people who can lobby politicians on behalf of the industry.
