Amazon faces strikes in Germany

Services union Ver.di called for strikes at two of Amazon.com Inc.'s German locations over wages and benefits Monday, and threatened further action against the online retailer as the year's busiest shopping season sets in, according to MarketWatch.

"It lies completely in Amazon's hands whether more strikes will take place in the upcoming Christmas season," Ver.di representative Mechthild Middeke said.

Up to 1,200 employees are expected to participate in the strikes. The union is calling for Amazon to adopt industry-wide wage agreements rather than use its own pay scale, the report said.
