Amazon boosts Kindle sales by offering old books

Posted online
In response to one of its most requested features, in October, Amazon began offering digital versions of previously purchased print books with a service called MatchBook.

According to Fortune, customers can purchase e-books corresponding to purchases dating back to 1995, priced at $2.99 or less.

The company offers a similar service for music, called AutoRip, that allows free streaming of MP3 tracks for previously purchased CDs or vinyl records. Vinyl record sales on Amazon have increased 66 percent since AutoRip was first offered at the beginning of the year.

Through Matchbook, book sales are expected to increase, but not by a large percentage. The retailer's selection of titles is limited and few customers are interested in owning the media in both formats.
