Altice buying Cablevision in $17.7B deal

European telecoms group Altice has agreed to buy U.S. cable TV operator Cablevision in a cash-and-share deal worth $17.7 billion, including debt.

Patrick Drahi, French-Israeli billionaire and Altice founder, entered the U.S. market in May via the $9.1 billion purchase of Suddenlink Communications.

In a statement, Altice indicated the deal would build the fourth-largest cable operation in the U.S.
