Alphabet's profits, revenue surge

Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google, reported profits and revenue that rose sharply in the second quarter.

Earnings more than doubled to $18.5 billion, and revenue jumped 62% to $61.9 billion.

Company officials cited an increase in online advertising.
