Alltel customers in the Springfield area can now instantly tap into the wireless Internet with the launch of Web-Unwired. Alltel's wireless Internet service.
It can be customized in a retail store and ready for use immediately, according to an Alltel release.
Web-Unwired allows customers to choose from four wireless home page designs, prioritizing the tools and information they find most important.
Customers also can send and receive e-mail and view Internet-based content on their wireless handsets, and they can access a daily planner, calendar and bookmarks to favorite sites.
"Web-Unwired emphasizes personalization to give customers the quickest access to the information they want, when they want it," said Ray Thomas, Alltel's vice president and general manager for Missouri, in the release.
Now available in Springfield, Alltel already offers Web-Unwired in more than 50 other cities across the United States. Alltel plans to make the service available in all of its digital markets by the end of the year.
Web-Unwired can be added to select digital rate plans for $5.95 per month and is free for the first two months. Web-Unwired customers can use their calling plan minutes for voice or data.
"This launch further solidifies Alltel's position as an integrated communications provider, meaning we have the ability to bundle Web-Unwired with other communications services on one bill," Thomas said.
