Allstate to buy warranty provider for $1.4B

Allstate agreed to buy SquareTrade for $1.4 billion.

SquareTrade, a growing provider of extended warranties for electronics, allows Allstate to break into the consumer warranty business.

The purchase would be Allstate's first since it bought online auto insurer Esurance in 2011 for $1 billion.
