Allstate to buy National General for $4B

Allstate Corp. announced yesterday it would buy National General Holdings Corp. for roughly $4 billion.

Allstate, one of the largest U.S. auto insurers, would expand its market share in personal lines insurance with the deal.

"Acquiring National General accelerates Allstate's strategy to increase market share in personal property-liability and significantly expands our independent agent distribution," Allstate CEO Tom Wilson said.
