Allegiant launching year-round SGF-LAX service

Posted online
This summer, Allegiant Air plans to expand its service at Springfield-Branson National Airport.

During the seventh annual State of the Airport address yesterday, Springfield Aviation Director Brian Weiler said the airline on June 2 would begin year-round service between Springfield and Los Angeles International Airport, aka LAX.

“Something that I’ve been hearing from our stakeholders for a long time is we’d like to have this expansion,” Weiler said during the presentation at the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce.

Allegiant currently runs flights two times a week for about three months of the year beginning in June. The seasonal service from SGF launched in 2009.

The expansion means Allegiant would operate three flights a week between SGF and LAX on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

SGF spokesman Kent Boyd said airlines keep individual flight counts close to the vest, but he predicted passengers between the two airports would, at minimum, double with the expansion.
