A new Aldi store is in the works at the Springfield Plaza shopping center on the west side of the city.
Ryan Stemmons, director of real estate for Aldi Inc., confirmed plans for a new store after a Springfield building permit was filed for the location. The building permit indicates the address is 3960 W. Washita St.
Stemmons said the Aldi store would be located next to Michaels and span 22,825 square feet.
The Springfield Plaza store would be Aldi's fourth location in Springfield. The company currently operates Queen City stores at 421 E. Battlefield Road, 1645 E. Kearney St. and 2847 E. Sunshine St., according to its website.
At Springfield Plaza, Aldi would join Ross Dress for Less, Shoe Dept. Encore, Petco, Burlington, Ulta Beauty, Five Below and Michaels.
