Aldermen approve Branson Hills TIF bonds

Posted online
The Branson Board of Aldermen on Feb. 26 gave final approval to the issuance of $45 million in tax-increment-financing bonds to fund the final phases of the Branson Hills retail development at the U.S. Highway 65 and Bee Creek interchange.

The bonds will be paid for from revenues generated by the first phase of the development that included Target, Home Depot and TJ Maxx – which all opened about a year ago – and a Chili’s restaurant.

The bonds will pay for costs associated with the second and third phases of Branson Hills, which include a Wal-Mart Supercenter and a Kohl’s store.

The retail development is set for completion early next year.

The board activated the TIF district for Branson Hills in November.

That approval began a 23-year timeline for project developer Art King of Columbia to capture sales tax revenue within the district.

The city has no liability with the issuance and repayment of the bonds.
