Grocery chain Albertsons signed on to buy the portion of Ride Aid that isn't being sold to Walgreens.
Walgreens initially proposed to spend $17.5 billion to buy Rite Aid's 4,600 stores. However, regulators brought that down to 1,932 stores for $4.37 billion.
A combined Albertsons and Rite Aid would have nearly 5,000 U.S. stores and 4,300 pharmacies.
