Al Gore sues Al Jazeera

Posted online
Al Gore and Joel Hyatt, the co-founders of Current TV, have sued Al Jazeera America for withholding money from their channel's sale to the Qatar-backed broadcaster.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Al Jazeera bought Current TV in January 2013 for close to $500 million.

In the lawsuit, Gore and Hyatt allege Al Jazeera attempted to seize $65 million in escrow funds related to the sale.

"Rather than return the $65 million remaining in the escrow, as it was obligated to do," the court papers said, Al Jazeera America "on June 27, 2014, submitted five claim certificates through which it attempts to manufacture several ways to retail all of the escrow balance for itself in express violation of the merger agreement."
