Airbnb bans hosts with multiple listings in San Francisco

Airbnb is making a new effort to play nice with its home town.

The company is building into its website software that automatically will ban San Francisco hosts who control multiple listings, sometimes a sign of landlords running illegal hotels. Those who with legitimate reasons for multiple listings can request exceptions.

The feature is scheduled to take effect Nov. 1. Airbnb officials say the company already has removed hundreds of San Francisco listings since April, when it promised to crack down on illegal commercial operators. San Francisco law allows homeowners to rent out only their own home.
