Officials have confirmed that debris found in Indonesian waters is from AirAsia Flight 8501 that vanished three days ago, the airline said Tuesday.

According to USA Today, the country's National Search and Rescue Agency found debris of the aircraft in the Karimata Strait between Sumatra, Java and Borneo, a large island shared between Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei.

"We would like to extend our sincere sympathies to the family and friends of those on board QZ8501. Our sympathies also go out to the families of our dear colleagues," AirAsia Indonesia CEO Sunu Widyatmoko said in a statement.
