AGC: Associated General Contractors focuses on service to industry

Chartered in 1934, the Kansas City Chapter of Associated General Contractors is dedicated to providing services of value to its members and to representing their interests in a strong and growing construction industry. |ret||ret||tab|

These members include 93 general contractors and 55 specialty contractors and supplier/service providers in Missouri, including Springfield, and Kansas. |ret||ret||tab|

The Kansas City Chapter is one of more than 100 chapters of the AGC of America, the largest organization of general contractors in the country. Founded in 1918, the AGC of America is comprised of more than 33,000 members, including over 7,200 of the nation's leading general contracting firms. Its mission statement is as follows:|ret||ret||tab|

"The Associated General Contractors of America, the voice of the construction industry, is an organization of qualified construction contractors and industry-related companies dedicated to skill, integrity and responsibility. Operating in partnership with its chapters, the association provides a full range of services satisfying the needs and concerns of its members, thereby improving the quality of construction and protecting the public interest."|ret||ret||tab|

The Kansas City Chapter offers access to all the resources of the national AGC, as well as locally sponsored events featuring industry professionals and leading political figures, Constructors' Forum events, safety training, etc. |ret||ret||tab|

Dan Morgan is the executive director of the Kansas City Chapter. The chapter's 2003 officers are: Phillip D. Bartolotta, Fogel-Anderson Construction Co., president; Dan R. Meyer, Rau Construction Company, first vice president; James M. Senter Jr., Pearce Construction Company, second vice president; W. Craig Simon, Professional Contractors & Engineers Inc., treasurer; and C. Wells Haren III, HarenLaughlin Construction, past president.|ret||ret||tab|

The Kansas City Chapter's 2003 directors are: Chester P. "Kit" Carson Jr., Carson-Mitchell Inc.; Jerry D. Daugherty, Reinhardt Construction Company; Douglas Firebaugh, Firebaugh Construction Inc.; Casey Halsey, J.E. Dunn Construction Company; Jeffrey B. Hanes, The Carter Waters Corporation; Darin S. The Kansas City Chapter is a strong advocate for programs and policies that promote jobs and growth in the construction industry. In September, Chapter officials met with Republican Sens. Christopher S. "Kit" Bond and Jim Talent in Washington, D.C., and toured the Capitol with U.S. Rep. Sam Graves, a Republican from the 6th District|ret||ret||tab|

This past April, the AGC of America awarded to the AGC Construction Club of SMSU a service grant that was used to purchase materials for a playhouse to benefit Boys & Girls Town of Missouri. In recent years, the AGC Construction Club of SMSU also has worked with Adopt-A-Street, Ozark Food Harvest and Habitat for Humanity.|ret||ret||tab|

The AGC of America annually awards Certificates of Commendation to Kansas City Chapter companies participating in the National AGC Safety Awards Program. The most recent honorees for their Excellent Safety Records in 2002 were Ammon Painting Company Inc., Fogel-Anderson Construction Co., A.L. Huber Inc., Kidwell Construction Inc., Pearce Construction Company, Professional Contractors & Engineers Inc. and Rau Construction Company. This past June, the Kansas City Chapter hosted a free eight-hour AGC/OSHA Steel Erection Training Seminar.|ret||ret||tab|

In May 2002, the Kansas City Chapter held its first-ever Building Excellence Awards dinner and awards presentations. Held at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, the event honored the achievements of member companies, with winners selected by a distinguished panel of judges. The biannual event will be held again at the Nelson-Atkins on May 20, 2004. Awards will be presented in nine categories: Project of the Year (in five categories according to size); Project of the Year by a Specialty Contractor; Safety Award; Contributions to the Community; and Constructors' Forum.|ret||ret||tab|

For a general contractor, membership in the Kansas City Chapter of AGC establishes member-ship in The Builders' Association. Associate AGC membership for specialty contractors and supplier/service providers also qualify for Builders' Association membership.
