You know what they say about gems. Sometimes, they are hidden.
It’s the discovery that produces meaning, excitement and some of the value.
The gems in Evangel University’s newest art gallery are hidden in the back corner of the Bellwether Gallery.
I found myself mesmerized on the March First Friday Art Walk for two reasons.
Exhibit A: “Will Work 4 Food” by Michael Buesking.
Exhibit B: “Moshe and the Burning Bus” by Michael Buesking.
It’s only coincidental that both of these works in the corner nook are by Buesking, who is not a student but a faculty member. There are many great student works on display in this quaint gallery, too, and apparently, they have a quality mentor from whom to learn. Buesking is an associate professor of art at Evangel.
The Bellwether is a new home for Evangel art. The university recently partnered with photographer Randy Bacon to occupy the space in his Monarch Art Factory, 600 W. College St. in downtown Springfield. Bellwether has its own Main Street entrance in the block-long building that also houses Bacon’s studio and gallery.
The Bellwether’s hours to view Evangel art are 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 11 a.m.–4 p.m. Saturday.[[In-content Ad]]
Under construction beside the existing Republic branch of the Springfield-Greene County Library District – which remains in operation throughout the project – is a new building that will double the size of the original, according to library officials.
