Aetna agrees to buy Humana in $34.1B deal

Health insurer Aetna Inc. has agreed to buy smaller rival Humana Inc. for $37 billion in cash and stock.

If completed, the deal would mark the largest ever in the history of the insurance industry, according to Dow Jones Newswires.

The deal is expected to face antitrust scrutiny. It would push Aetna close to Anthem Inc's No.2 insurer spot by membership. It also would triple Aetna's Medicare Advantage business.
