Aegion to lay off 900 employees

Chesterfield-based Aegion Corp. (Nasdaq: AEGN) plans to cut 900 employees, or 14.5 percent of its workforce.

The layoffs are part of the company's plans to restructure as low oil prices hurt its energy business. Aegion posted a first-quarter loss of $3.8 million, compared to earnings of $1.4 million a year earlier. Revenue dropped nearly 5 percent to $293.9 million.

The company rehabilitates and maintains industrial, water, wastewater, energy and mining piping systems.
