A&E Summer 2009 Project Profile: Slone Architects Inc.

Posted online
Eureka Springs, Ark.

General contractor: Missouri Supermarket Builders

Estimated cost: $1.5 million

Description: This convenience store is a prototype for Springfield-based Rapid Robert's stores in resort and vacation destination locations. Designed by Slone Architects, it emphasizes a Route 66 theme that's a blend of a midcentury gas station with art deco signage and interiors, southwest roadside souvenir stands, and general store ambiance. The desired effect is a step back to a time when friendly service and a cold soda were common in travelers' experiences. Engineers on the project are: Great River Engineering, civil; Crocker Engineering, mechanical, electrical and plumbing; and Silverhill, structural. Interior design is by Buxton-Kubik-Dodd Inc. Project completion is anticipated in summer 2010.
