Description: Sapp Design Associates is the architect for additions and renovations to Associated Electric Cooperative's Springfield home office. With more than 50,000 square feet, the three-story office addition includes a basement. It will house executive offices, a training room, a board meeting room and engineers' workstations for power production and marketing. Conference and meeting rooms on each floor will serve multiple departments. Sustainable design options have been incorporated to enable the structure to pursue Silver Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. These elements include a geothermal mechanical system, occupancy sensors for artificial lighting and recycled building materials. Engineers on the project are: Malone Finkle Eckhardt & Collins Inc., mechanical electrical and plumbing; and Mettemeyer Engineering LLC, structural. Completion is slated for August 2010.
