U.S. employers reduced payrolls by 32,000 jobs in September, according to the latest report from payroll processor ADP.
Economists expected 51,000 jobs to be added in September compared with August.
ADP revised August data to show a loss of 3,000 jobs. Data initially pointed to a 54,000-job gain.
