Activist Cori Bush yesterday defeated 20-year U.S. Rep. William Lacy Clay in the Missouri primary.
Clay's father, William Clay, held the same 1st Congressional District seat for three decades before him. Both Clay and Bush are Democrats.
Bush is poised to become the first Black woman to represent Missouri in Washington, D.C. Her campaign grew out of protests in Ferguson against the police killing of Michael Brown in 2014.
