Terri West, ASID, IIDA, and Becky Green of Interior Planning Consultants Inc. designed this workspace at Great Southern Travel, 3424 S. National Ave., for Great Southern manager Ann Turner.
Great Southern Travel's Vacation Center is a tropical themed facility where clients can meet with a travel representative and purchase any travel supplies, such as luggage, passport holders, etc.
There is a miniature ship for children to play on while they are waiting, and a mural by Laughingwell Studio, owned by Linda Spencer and Roberto Regalado, surrounds the space at the main entrance. The play area elements and the reception counter were custom designed by Bill Woody, project architect, of Marshall Waters Woody Architecture & Planning. The color scheme was inspired by Great Southern Travel's marketing materials, using deep blue and teal green.
The facility also features a large conference room with state-of-the-art video equipment for group meetings, etc.
Challenges of the project included providing adequate private space for the representatives and clients, adequate space for storage of brochures and files, and the time frame of the project, which was fairly short. The general contractor on the project was Morelock Ross Builders.
