Sales at the Bass Pro Shops Pyramid store in Memphis, Tenn., started off with a bang and dropped by half in some months to finish the year, according to records in the city’s legal department obtained by LocalMemphis.com.
The first month open generated over $100,000 for the city, and June represents the current peak of $145,000, according to the city’s ABC-TV affiliate. But store sales started to slide in September and October, based on the amounts Bass Pro cut the city for rent payments. In November, Memphis received $66,000 in rent, based on store sales.
According to Bass Pro’s development agreement with the city, the outdoor retailer is under contract to pay annual rent equal to the greater of $1 million or 2 percent of gross sales.
