A Conversation With … Cap Briant

Nixall recently received notification from the Environmental Protection Agency that its sanitizer product has added new kill claims of six viruses and yeast. What’s the significance?
It gives a broader scope of uses and comfort to the individuals as they see each thing we add. New ones include things like norovirus, called the cruise ship virus. It costs us money to go out and test for these. There have been some industries that want these specific things on our label.

Do you take requests?
Yes, if a company wants us to make a solution with a product for them in a private label, then we will certainly look for the answers with them. If it requires more testing, we will go into that clinical or those sets of tests, whether it be (Food and Drug Administration) or EPA. We haven’t found anything that this hasn’t been successful on when we go to test it. Definitely, the day cares want to see that virus – norovirus. This liquid, now that it has those norovirus claims, will give the customer more comfort.

Nixall recently received the approval of The American Cat Fanciers Association as a premier product. Do endorsements like this spur business?
Yes, they do. In the cat fanciers’ situation, you’ve got them using it on the judges table, using another product on the animal to make the skin nicer, you have the judges using it on their hands. As an FDA product, we are good from head to toe. Whether you have  broken skin or your skin is healthy, this moisturizes, manages, irrigates. It’s essentially a cleaner, but it makes skin healthier.

The Nixall product line ranges from surface cleansing to hand antiseptic and topical wound treatment to an animal care product. Which are most successful?
The most popular use is probably a tie, but I’m going to say for any abrasion, minor cut or wound. Cleaning is also popular, but those are two different products. When I said cleaner earlier, I meant for the skin. It’s a great surface cleaner at a different strength. It’s probably the best in the world at the complete packaging kill with a safety level that is beyond approach. The Jalili family restaurants – Flame, Touch, Black Sheep – they wouldn’t be without this liquid. They use it from wiping menus to the kitchen to the servers.

Where is Nixall looking to expand?
We are focusing on the ag industry. We have dog owners to horse, cat, sheep, goat to llama across this country. You can see pictures of before and afters that will show you a wound is finally healing properly. Everything before was like talking on a party line telephone. Now, you’ve got a smartphone and a smarter liquid, which has created a smarter solution for all of these problems. All the familiar names – Neosporin, peroxide, iodine – killed all the good bacteria inside these wounds. Ours is totally different and it shows night and day in the progress of wound management.

Coming off 2012 sales of $100,000, you projected $3 million in 2013. How did that play out?
Let me say this, our goal this year is to reach a million people, have a million people using our product. That translates into them paying $8 at the store for this bottle, $20 for this one, $30 for this one. The goals are far beyond where they were before. I don’t want to go into numbers, but the goal is a million people.

Where is Nixall headed next?
We have a new product division. We are coming out with new products for people with private labels continually. It’s not just under the Nixall name; it’s grown to us manufacturing solutions for other people’s products. I’m under confidentially agreement with every single company because they don’t want their competition to come to me. The reach is every state now and many foreign countries.
