8,000 Uber, Lyft drivers fail Massachusetts check

More than 8,000 Massachusetts residents didn't pass a new background check system to drive for Uber and Lyft.

The majority were rejected because of suspended licenses or they hadn't been driving long enough to qualify.

However, hundreds had committed serious crimes, including violent crimes and sexual crimes.

Massachusetts passed a new law regulating ride-sharing companies, which required a background check run by the state government in addition to the companies' own background checks.
