8 Branson businesses fail liquor spot check

Posted online
Following recently conducted random compliance spot checks by the city of Branson, eight businesses were found in violation.

Conducted July 18 and 19 at a sampling of 88 businesses across the city by the Branson Police Department with the assistance of minors, the checks verified the legal age of alcohol purchasers in compliance with the city’s liquor ordinance, according to a news release.

Of the eight, three were package stores and five were establishments that sell liquor by the drink. The violators who failed to properly check IDs are as follows:

• Branson Woods Marketplace
• Mount Pleasant Winery
• White Oak Station No. 20
• Cici’s Pizza
• Foxy’s Bistro
• Radisson Hotel
• Smith Creek Moonshine
• Texas Land and Cattle

The violations are in stark contrast to the city’s overall spot check record where 91 percent of businesses passed with a clean rating – the same results as last year’s check, according to the release.

City leaders attribute the roughly 20 percent increase in spot check compliance over the past two years to mandated training programs for servers, cashiers and bartenders on liquor sales laws, regulations and proper identification checking procedures. Under city code, all staff members responsible for selling or serving liquor must attend a training within 60 days of hiring and every two years thereafter.
