700 being investigated in India over US tax scam

Around 700 call center workers in India are being investigated for a huge tax scam that targeted thousands of Americans.

Police say call center employees posed as IRS tax collectors to rake in tens of millions of dollars.

Seventy workers have been arrested, and the other 630 are being investigated further.

To accomplish the scheme, workers allegedly told American citizens that they had defaulted on tax payments and were facing prosecution by the IRS. Americans were told they would be raided by the police if they hung up and that they had to pay large sums of money to get out of it.
