6M borrowers are 90 days late on their car loans

New figures released by the New York Federal Reserve paint an alarming picture of the state of subprime car loans.

Roughly six million auto borrowers with shoddy credit scores are at least 90 days late on making their loan payments. The percentage of delinquent subprime auto loans is at its highest level since 2010.

Since the Great Recession ended, more than $1.1 trillion in auto loans have been issued. Many of those loans went to borrowers with poor credit, who now appear to be struggling to make payments.
