60 charged in $300M telemarketing fraud scheme

Three separate federal indictments announced yesterday charged 60 defendants for their roles in a $300 million nationwide telemarketing fraud scheme.

The charges include conspiracy, mail fraud and violations of the Senior Citizens Against Marketing Scams Act of 1994. The defendants are located in 14 states, including Missouri.

Officials say more than 150,000 elderly and vulnerable victims have been targeted in the scheme.
