4M fewer uninsured as Obamacare kicks in

Posted online
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reporting that in the first part of 2014, the number of Americans without health insurance fell to 13.1 percent from 14.4 percent.

That's nearly 4 million people who now have coverage and that figure doesn't include people who enrolled later in the cycle, according to CNNMoney.

The largest decrease was among adults ages 18 to 34, with nearly 21 percent uninsured versus more than 26 percent prior to Jan. 1, when the Affordable Care Act policies became active. Notable decreases also occurred for those in or near poverty, especially for those living in states that expanded Medicaid, and among blacks and Latinos, according to the report.
