Web development firm 40Digits closed its Springfield office three years after it sold to Kansas City firm Barkley Inc.
The company that started in 2008 as a Springfield-based two-man shop shut its doors in late June at 431 S. Jefferson Ave. inside Wilhoit Plaza, said co-founder Josh Burch. He was unavailable for further comment by deadline, but indicated the Springfield office over time had become more integrated into the Kansas City operations. Burch continues to work for 40Digits under Barkley, but it’s unclear in what capacity. 40Digits co-founder Chris Langston could not be reached for comment by Facebook Messenger. Barkley spokesman Mike Swenson also did not return a call.
Barkley bought 40Digits in July 2014 for undisclosed terms, according to a
company blog post. Barkley performs a variety of services, including marketing, strategy, creative design, public relations, data strategy and millennial consulting.
In Kansas City, 40Digits continues to operate with around 50 employees, said Audrey Jones, a Barkley administrative assistant who answered the company’s main phone line. Just before announcing its merger into Barkley, 40Digits had 21 employees and reported 2013 revenue of $800,000 in a
Springfield Business Journal article.
40Digits’ client list locally has included The Great Game of Business, Convoy of Hope and Enactus. The company’s portfolio includes brochures, marketing and e-commerce sites, and custom web applications.
