Then: Principal, Republic High School
Now: Assistant superintendent, Republic School District
For Tyler Overstreet, education is a family business.
He says his mom, an elementary teacher, taught him the “caring and nurturing side” of the job. His father, longtime principal at Nixa High School, helped him understand the impact of leadership.
“Understanding that at an early age drew me to those experiences, and I found myself in education,” Overstreet, 43, says.
He worked in Logan-Rogersville R-VII and Springfield Public Schools before moving to the Republic district in 2015.
Overstreet will step into the Republic superintendent role July 1. He wants to help others.
“It’s a passion of mine to help people grow in their current roles,” he says. “If we can make everybody better at what they’re doing, those classrooms, buildings, districts are going to better in the long run because we’ve got people that are making things happen for kids.”
