3M to pay $850M to end water pollution case

3M agreed to pay $850 million to end a yearslong lawsuit claiming it contaminated Minnesota water.

Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson filed the suit in 2010. She said the state would use the money for "finance projects which involve drinking water and the water sustainability."

The cased involved 3M's use of perfluorochemicals, made at plants in Minnesota starting in the 1950s.
