3.69-carat diamond found in Arkansas park

Posted online
Ever wanted to own a diamond the size of a pinto bean? Head to Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas.

An Evening Shade, Ark., woman found the 3.69-carat white, teardrop-shaped diamond in the park April 23 — and she’s keeping it.

Visitors get to keep what they find at the state park's 37.5-acre search field, which is named for an ancient eruption that scattered the area with gems. The area, which became a state park in 1972, is the only public site in the world where – for a small fee – anyone can dig for diamonds and keep them.

Inspired by prayer, Clark named her find the Hallelujah Diamond.

CNN reports it's the 122nd diamond found at Crater of Diamonds this year. The diamond is the largest found at the park so far this year. On April 16, 2014, a 6.19-carat white diamond, named the Limitless Diamond, was found and the nation’s largest, a 40.23-carat named Uncle Sam, was found in 1924.

The staff regularly plow the field to unearth new diamonds. About 75,000 have been found at the 900-acre park.
