Holy sugary drink Batman! There’s how much sugar in my Starbucks?
British campaign group Action on Sugar reports some drinks contain as much as 25 teaspoons — nearly three times the sugar in one can of Coca-Cola.
The biggest offender is Starbucks' hot mulled fruit grape with chai, orange and cinnamon. Not a tea fan, don’t worry. The far more popular vanilla latte and caramel macchiato espresso drinks can contain up to eight teaspoons of sugar. The Coke, by comparison, has nine.
But the Seattle staple isn’t alone. CNNMoney reports 98 percent of hot flavored drinks sold at major coffee chains have excessive levels of sugars per serving.
The other culprits? Among others, a medium Dunkin' Donuts vanilla chai has over 11 teaspoons of sugar, while a hot macchiato includes 7 teaspoons. A large mocha at McDonald's has 11.
CNNMoney reports Starbucks has committed to reduce added sugar in its "indulgent drinks" by 25 percent by the end of 2020, reminding consumers it already offers sugar-free syrups and natural sweetness.
