Following a third round of hearings stretched over four months, the Overland Park Planning Commission approved Monday a rezoning for the ambitious redevelopers of Brookridge Golf & Fitness Club.
The vote sends the $2.4 billion project to the Overland Park City Council, which is slated to hear the plans Aug. 17.
Developer Chris Curtin, who acquired the 27-hole golf course last year for $17.55 million, is working to establish mixed-use zoning for the project plans that include 2.2 million square feet of office space within the 5.8 million-square-foot development. Beyond the offices, which include 10- to 12-story buildings along Interstate 435, the development would feature over 330,000 square feet of retail, a 650-seat movie theater, a 3,500-seat indoor performing arts center, a 550-room hotel and 2,326 multifamily units.
The complex is expected to add 49,000 vehicles a day to surrounding traffic near 103rd Street and Antioch Road and could take 20 years to build out.
