2.1M more Americans file for unemployment

Roughly 2.1 million Americans filed for first-time unemployment benefits last week, according to Department of Labor data.

That brings the total to more than 40 million since the coronavirus pandemic shut down much of the economy in March.

CNN Business reports one in four American workers have filed for unemployment insurance.
